One Car Rollover with Multiple Ejections, Then DUI Driver Hits Fire Engine

A rollover one-car accident attributed to excessive speed killed one person and seriously injured three others early Saturday morning. At least two people were ejected from the car and one person was trapped in the accident vehicle. A car traveling at a high rate of speed hit a guard rail on the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway and flipped and rolled up the northbound embankment. During the rollover, two passengers were ejected from the car. A Chicago firefighter working at the scene of the accident was also injured.

Chicago Police and Fire departments, Illinois State Police and IDOT responded to the accident and were managing the scene when a second vehicle with a DUI driver crashed at high speed into Chicago Fire Department Fire Engine 122. The male driver attempted to flee the accident, but was apprehended by Chicago Police Department officers. The driver of the second accident vehicle was arrested for DUI and was seen in custody in the back of an Illinois State Police squad car.

Ambulance 55 and Ambulance 22 responded on this accident. Police officers evaluating the accident scene and taking account of witness reports are attributing excessive speed to these accidents.
