Thirty-two-year-old Army Sgt. 1st Class Corey Hood died Sunday after he collided with a fellow parachutist, and then ran into a building and fell to the ground during the Chicago Air and Water Show. Thousands of spectators were watching.
Officials released the identity of the member of the U.S. Army parachute team who collided with a Navy Leap Frog parachutist Saturday parachutist after he died Sunday afternoon. The parachutist who was involved in the accident just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday, was identified as 32-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Corey Hood, of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Sgt. 1st Class Corey Hood was a 14-year veteran who served five tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a spokeswoman for the U.S. Army parachute.
Hood was a forward observer — military personnel that are involved in artillery observation supporting military assets, such as Artillery, Close Combat Attack (rotary wing), Close Air Support (CAS), Mortars, Naval Gunfire. Forward Observers are also involved with communication of battlefield intelligence such as enemy locations, strength, and activities reporting to Command.
