Blazes raging in forests and woodlands across California have taken the life of a firefighter and forced hundreds of people to flee their homes as crews continue to battle the flames.

California is under a state of emergency with more than 9,000 firefighters battling nearly two dozen wildfires fueled by record heat and strong winds. Thousands of acres have been destroyed north of San Francisco, and hundreds have been forced from their homes. Carter Evans reports.

Triple-digit temperatures and dry winds are hampering firefighting efforts out West as wildfires continue to blaze. John Blackstone is on the scene with the latest.
