Orland Park police responded about 1:37 p.m. Monday to the Midwest Bank at 11200 West 143rd Street with multiple 911 calls reporting a bank robbery in progress.

The man fired two shots and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money. The bank robber displayed a dark semiautomatic handgun after entering the bank and announced the robbery. When a customer entered the bank, the offender shot at him — apparently to stop the customer from leaving and calling 9-1-1. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and fled.

The offender was described as a male/black, about age 30, 6 feet 185 LBS, wearing a black and white flannel jacket with a light fleece hood, a black hooded sweatshirt underneath, dark blue jeans and black gym shoes.

He was last seen fleeing on foot in a northwest direction into a residential area. Orland Park police were searching for the offender Monday and Tuesday — assisted by Cook County sheriff’s police K-9 units and patrol units. Police canvassed nearby neighborhoods, but had reason to believe the suspect had left the area.

Citizens with information are urged to call Orland Park police (708-349-4111) or the local FBI office (312-421-6700).
