Palatine police responded about 10:47 a.m. Thursday to a report of a burglary in progress at a condo building at 140 West Wood Street. The 34-year-old female resident reported that when she returned home, she noticed damage to her front door which she assumed was caused by a burglar.

When the resident entered the condo, she allegedly found an unknown male/white subject in her bedroom. She fired a shot at him and held him at gunpoint until police arrived. The man was later identified as Noah I. Perlman, 33, of 140 W. Wood St. Apt. 205.

According to Palatine police, the female resident noticed that Perlman had a hammer and large screwdriver in his hands. The resident then retrieved her legally-owned handgun and confronted him.
She stated that she feared for her life as she fired her weapon once — missing the alleged intruder. No injuries were reported.

When officers arrived, Perlman was taken into custody and transported to Palatine Police Department headquarters.

A search warrant was obtained for Perlman’s unit, where police investigators reported they found recovered stolen property from another burglary that occurred in a different unit of the same building last month.

Police also found property that was allegedly taken from two basement storage lockers over the past two months.

Police reported all of those previously reported incidents occurred since Perlman moved into the building approximately three months ago.

The recovered stolen items included …

various home electronics and computer equipment,
an electric guitar with amplifier,
a Yamaha keyboard and speakers.

A stolen personal check, with Perlman’s signature allegedly on it, was also found in his condo.

Noah I. Perlman was charged with residential burglary, felony possession of stolen property valued at over $10,000, forgery of a stolen check, and possession of a controlled substance (a Diazepam pill without a prescription).

Perlman is scheduled for a weekend bond hearing at the Cook County Courthouse in Maywood tomorrow this morning.
