Greg Norman Cuts Hand with Chain Saw: Could He Be the New Chain Saw Safety Poster Boy?

#ad▼

Australian gold veteran, Greg Norman, says he is “lucky” to still have a left hand, after a chainsaw accident on Saturday.

Greg Norman suffered a severe cut to his left hand just below his wrist when the weight of a tree branch affected the saw and caused it to kick back, or Norman’s hand was pushed toward the cutting saw by the weight of the branch.

Greg norman was seen wearing large purple protective padding after his surgical repair.

Historically, fatal injuries from chain saws are known to occur from cuts to the head, throat, upper body, upper arm, leg (especially the inner thigh). Most chain saw injuries occur to the left leg and left foot, and also the left hand and left arm.

Before using a chain saw, operators should always check safety instructions with the product manual and online from sources such as CDC, NIOSH, the U.S. Product Safety Commission.

Chainsaws may seem simple to use, but using a chainsaw and clearing trees and branches are operations that require training and proper safety precautions. Before using a chainsaw, homeowners should carefully consider the need to improve their skills with a practical,
hands-on training experience. Homeowners can learn both chainsaw safety and safe and efficient cutting techniques through training. These safe work practices can help home owners to prevent injury during a storm clean-up.
