ComEd Outage Video: “When Storms Hit”

#ad▼

VIDEO: Learn about what causes power outages, how ComEd restores power and how to prepare for an outage.

ComEd explains how power lines are designed to flip a circuit when lines are down. This can cause a wider area power outage, but is designed to stop current from arcing where it could cause more damage. ComEd warns that all lines are not necessarily de-energized, and advises all residents to stay away from lines.

The average power outage lasts less than two hours, but longer outages are possible from severe weather.

ComEd explains that information from customers is important, and urges customers not to assume that neighbors have already reported an outage.
