Arlington Post 208 Faces Barrington Post 158 in American Legion Baseball Illinois State Tournament at Recreation Park Tonight

UPDATE: Arlington lost to Barrington 3 to 1.

Arlington (Post 208) will face Barrington (Post 158) in tournament contest tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Recreation Park at Douglas Avenue and Miner Street. Arlington (35-4) beat Barrington in both of their meetings for Summer 2014.

Barrington (37-7) has won 29 of the last 30 games it has played, including the most recent 11. Barrington (2nd Division) has not made it to the state tournament since 2009.

Arlington, which also won the regular season title in the 1st Division, won tournaments in Appleton, Moline and Wheaton; and placed second in the Barrington tournament.

The Northwest Legion team (Post 690), which is comprised of players from Elk Grove, Palatine and Schaumburg, finished 2nd in the 1st Division (Cook County) tournament. The Post 690 Red Sox were able to advance to the state tournament because Arlington had an automatic berth, which gives Northwest Legion the official 1st Division representative status.

Northwest Legion (24-7-1) beat Mattoon Post 88 (24-6) in the tournament’s opening game at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Wednesday’s 3 p.m. game featured Galesburg (Post 285) and Swansea/Fairview Heights (Posts 2007/978). Galesburg (33-15) beat Swansea/Fairview Heights (31-9) with a score of 10 to 9.

Two teams from the Illinois state American Legion tournament will advance to the Great Lakes Regional tournament in Terre Haute, Indiana, beginning August 7, 2014. Both the winner and the runner-up will advance to Terre Haute.
