Arlington Heights police received a report Monday of a successful telephone fraud scam of a victim who lives in the block of 800 South Burton Place Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender purporting to work for the IRS left a message on the victim’s answering machine. The victim contacted the offender via the telephone number provided on the answering machine message. The offender advised there was a problem with the victim’s tax return; demanded payment within the hour or the victim would be subject to arrest. The offender instructed the victim to go to the nearest CVS to purchase Green Dot Money Pak Cards. The victim purchased two cards valued around $1000 and provided the offender with the 14-digit serial number.

Later the resident apparently became suspicious and discovered the card was depleted of the balance.

The crime is reported to have occurred on Monday April 21, 2014 between 11:43 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
