The Schaumburg Police and Fire departments responded to a report of a serious
traffic crash involving entrapment at 10:40 a.m. this morning. The accident
involved two passenger vehicles at the intersection of Irving Park Road and
Mitchell Boulevard. Three persons were removed from the two vehicles and transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. The Cook County medical examiner’s office released the passenger’s identity late Monday. The victim was Matalda Gallo, age 77.

Preliminary information indicates a Chevy Malibu was traveling eastbound on Irving
Park Road as it was driven by an 82-year old male with a 78-year-old female passenger — both residents of Schaumburg. Apparently the Malibu turned
left to northbound Mitchell Boulevard and was struck on the passenger side by a Chevy Tahoe.

The Tahoe was traveling westbound on Irving Park Rd. and as it was being driven by a 78-year old male resident of Schaumburg. The 78-year old female passenger of the Malibu was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Her name is being withheld by Schaumburg Police at this time until we can confirm her family has been properly notified. The two drivers are being treated for what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The Schaumburg Police department is investigating this accident with the
assistance of the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) Serious Traffic Accident
Reconstruction Team. The road way was reopened to traffic at 4 p.m. It had been
closed since the time of the accident to facilitate the on-scene traffic crash
reconstruction investigation. No charges have been filed at this time related to the accident.
