Woman Injured in Townhouse/Condo Fire on Waterbury Circle, Palatine

Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:47 AM Tuesday to a report of a fire at a townhouse/condominium at 1456 North Waterbury Circle Palatine, IL. The first Palatine Fire Department crews arrived on the scene at 3:52 a.m. and reported heavy fire and smoke on the second floor of the townhouse. The first arriving fire companies attacked the fire with hose lines and searched for any possible occupants. The fire was contained to the second floor and partial attic space. The first floor sustained considerable water and smoke damage and the address is deemed to be uninhabitable. Firefighters had to open numerous walls and ceilings in adjacent units to check for fire extension. The fire was declared under control at 0420 a.m. No working smoke detectors were found in the fire unit.

The homeowner sustained minor burns to her lower legs and was treated and transported to the hospital. Damage estimates are not available at the time of this release, and the fire remains under investigation by Palatine Fire Department investigators.

The fire was fought by 24 firefighters, staffing four engines, one ladder trucks, one rescue squad and three ambulances which responded to the scene along with three command officers and two Fire Investigators.

During the incident, a unit from the Long Grove Fire Department stood by in a Palatine fire station to provide coverage for any additional calls. Palatine Police officers assisted at the scene also.

The fire is the second fire on the 1400 block of Waterbury Circle in less than two years.

The Palatine Fire Department sent notice to remind readers to have working smoke detectors in their homes, whether a single-family dwelling, an apartment or a condo. It is also important to have an escape plan, practice it, and be prepared to use it in the event of any fire.
