…HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW POSSIBLE TONIGHT ACROSS PORTIONS OF
SOUTHERN COOK COUNTY…

PERIODS OF LIGHT SNOW ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE AREA
LATER TODAY AS THE FLOW TURNS NORTHERLY OFF OF LAKE MICHIGAN.
LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED WITH THIS ACTIVITY.
HOWEVER…AN INTENSE BAND OF HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW IS EXPECTED TO
DEVELOP ACROSS SOUTHERN LAKE MICHIGAN LATER THIS EVENING. THERE IS
THE POTENTIAL THAT THIS HEAVY BAND OF SNOW COULD MOVE ONSHORE
ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN COOK COUNTY FROM THE CITY OF CHICAGO
SOUTHWARD LATER THIS EVENING. IF THIS DOES OCCUR…THERE COULD BE
PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW ACROSS SOUTHERN COOK NEAR LAKE MICHIGAN FOR
A FEW HOURS LATER TONIGHT BEFORE THE BAND OF SNOW SHIFTS EASTWARD
INTO NORTHWESTERN INDIANA.

INTENSE LAKE EFFECT BANDS OF SNOW…SUCH AS THAT EXPECTED TO
DEVELOP TONIGHT…CAN PRODUCE 2 TO 3 INCH PER HOUR SNOWFALL RATES
ACROSS LOCALIZED AREAS…ESSENTIALLY PRODUCING NEAR WHITE OUT
CONDITIONS AND ADVERSELY IMPACTING TRAVEL. HOWEVER…DUE TO THE
SMALL SCALE NATURE OF THESE BANDS OF SNOW…UNCERTAINTY REMAINS
HIGH AS TO THE EXACT AREAS THAT WILL BE IMPACTED. ANYONE PLANING
TRAVEL ACROSS THE REGION TONIGHT INTO TUESDAY IS ENCOURAGED TO STAY
UP TO DATE ON THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION.
