Numerous crashes and spin outs have occurred in Illinois since snow began to fall at about noon Saturday.

Even an Illinois State Trooper was a victim of a spin out on Interstate 90 eastbound lanes between Busse Road and Elmhurst Road at Mile Marker 73.75. The trooper was injured when his Illinois State Police cruiser hit the center wall. Des Plaines firefighter/paramedics responded for medical rescue for the Illinois State Police trooper. The trooper had just left the scene of a truck fire where the tire of a truck caught fire — probably from overheated brakes used in poor road conditions. Illinois State police and Arlington Heights firefighters had called for salt trucks in the area about 30 minutes before the trooper’s crash — partially because of water that was used to extinguish the tire/wheel fire.
