Train-Truck Crash on The Metra Union Pacific Northwest Line At Sayre Ave And Avondale Ave — Between Edison Park and Norwood Park, Chicago

Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:20 AM Friday to truck-train the Metra Union Pacific Northwest Line at Sayre Avenue and Avondale Chicago, IL. Chicago firefighters report that a semi-trailer truck was stuck on Northwest Line tracks and was hit by a Metra passenger train.

An off-duty firefighter rescued the driver from the truck before the truck was hit by the train. Report is in that no passengers were injured and the truck driver is not injured. A witness reports that the truck driver jumped from the truck — the witness saw the truck driver down in the snow as the train passed.

No word yet on how this is affecting trains on the Northwest Line.

Train #630, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:41 a.m., is presently stopped between Edison Park and Norwood Park due to a grade crossing incident involving a vehicle. The train is presently 28 minutes late and local police municipality will be investigating the incident. Other trains that will be stopped are #634, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:55 a.m., train #632, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:52 a.m. and train #636, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 9:23 a.m. These train are presently between 15 to 28 minutes late. Updates will be posted as soon as more information is received.

The extra equipment train used to assist commuters on train #630 is return to Chicago at this time. The train will make all station stops between Norwood Park and Clybourn station. (Posted:01/03/2014 10:14 AM)

Train #611, scheduled to depart Chicago at 9:00 a.m. and arrive Crystal Lake at 10:25 a.m., has just departed Chicago operating approximately 55 to 60 minutes late. The delays was due to the grade crossing incident at Norwood Park involving train #630 and receiving permission to proceed through the incident area by local police at Norwood (Posted:01/03/2014 09:57 AM).

Train #630, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:41 a.m., is presently stopped between Edison Park and Norwood Park due to a grade crossing incident involving a vehicle. The train is presently 85 minutes late and local police municipality will be investigating the incident. Trains will not be allowed to continue operating until local authority advises the Union Pacific and Metra. Other trains that will be stopped are #634, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:55 a.m., operating approximately 80 minutes late. Train #632, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:52 a.m. is operating approximately 80 minutes late. Train #636, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 9:23 a.m., is operating approximately 65 minutes late. Train #638, scheduled to depart Crysrtal Lake at 9:00 a.m. and arrive Chicago at 10:23 a.m., is stopped near Arlington Height and is approximately 18 minutes late.   1. I am actually in that train right now as we are still stopped and just got power back. The semi truck driver actually jumped out of the truck because we saw him laying in the snow.
