Dr. Sanjay Gupta investigates patient deaths at Lifetree pain clinic in Utah.

Dr. Lynn Webster, Director of the CRI Lifetree pain clinic in Utah was previously director of Lifetree Pain Clinic in Utah.

Opioid Risk Tool was developed by Dr. Lynn Webster, a pain researcher and physician. From 1990 to 2010, he headed Lifetree Pain Clinic with approximately 15 healthcare providers. In 2010, Webster left the pain clinic to focus full-time on clinical research. Webster’s research focused on the development of safer and more effective therapies for chronic pain and addiction prevention. Webster has studied the effects of opioids on sleep, the testing of new opioid formulations designed to deter misuse and effective screening methods to prevent opioid misuse.

NATIONWIDE OVERDOSE STATISTICS

Overdose deaths have increased 5 times since 1980

2009: Overdose deaths outnumbered car crash deaths for the first time ever

Opioid-related overdose deaths now outnumber all other overdose deaths.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta reports on a patient of Dr. Lynn Webster, who suffered chronic pain from injuries suffered in an automobile crash. The patient’s husband, Roy Bosley, claims he was trying to save his wife, Carol Ann, from dying after he frequently found his wife unconscious and barely breathing on multiple occasions — Bosley claims from heavy sedation prescribed by Dr. Webster. Bosley says he tried to notify Dr. Webster’s clinic, but he claims the clinic said patient privacy and HIPPA standards prevented them from communicating with him. Bosley said he only wanted to inform them of her heavily sedated condition.

Bolsey’s wife eventually died of an overdose. At one point CNN reports she was prescribed a pain killer, antidepressants, and anti-anxiety medication involving about 600 pills per month, about one year before her death. Initially an autopsy report stated that Carol Ann’s cause of death was suicide, but later the report stated the cause of death was undetermined.
