SCAM ALERT: The potential victim — a male, age 87 — received a telephone call from a subject claiming to be his granddaughter. The caller stated she was involved in a DUI accident in Indiana and doesn’t sound like herself because of a broken nose and stitched lip. She stated she needed money to get out of jail and then put on a male subject claiming to be her public attorney. He explained the original cost was $3,000 but he was able to lower the cost to $1,495. The victim was instructed to wire the funds to the Dominican Republic via Western Union. The potential victim called his son and determined the caller was trying to scam him out of money.
