Explosion at 3V Chemical Plant in Georgetown County

Georgetown County firefighters responded about 9:00 p.m. Tuesday to the 3V Chemical plant on Pannyroyal Road, in Georgetown County. The explosion may have involved hydrochloric acid, according to early report — not confirmed.

In September 2008 an explosion occurred involving sulfuric acid, sulfur trioxide or SO3, and a worker received chemical burns.

3V headquarters are located in Bergamo, Italy. The chemical company manufactures chemicals for the textile industry.


Cuthbert Langley reports there was no explosion, but that a worker was injured when containers fell.
