VIDEO: Flames and Smoke from Natural Gas Pipeline Explosion in Milford, Texas

A Chevron pipeline carrying liquefied petroleum gas exploded in Midland, Texas prompting law enforcement to evacuate a nearby town. There are no reports of injuries.

According to Milford volunteer fire Chief Mark Jackson, firefighters responded Thursday morning to an explosion at a pipeline drilling site where a 10-inch pipe was broken. All workers escaped, but the drilling rig was completely engulfed in flames. Several vehicles were destroyed near the drilling site.

Initially about 200 students in the Milford Independent School District were evacuated. It was reported that the entire town was eventually evacuated as a precaution.

Milford, Texas is located about 14 miles northeast of Hillsboro, Texas; and about 50 miles south of Dallas, Texas. The population of Milford, Texas is about 728 people.

Oil was discovered in the area in the Permian Basin in 1923, and produces about one-fifth of the total petroleum and natural gas output in the United States from 20 counties in Texas and New Mexico — mostly Texas.
