‘MasterChef’ Finalist Josh Marks Found Dead on South Peoria St in Apparent Suicide

Chicago Fire Department paramedics responded just before 6:45 p.m. Friday to the block of 9700 South Peoria Avenue for the report of an unresponsive male lying face up on the ground, and bleeding from the head. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:37 p.m. with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The deceased was identified as Josh Markslk A revolver was found near the body of Josh Marks.

On Monday July 29, 2013, a University of Chicago police officer encountered “MasterChef” runner-up Josh Marks with cuts on his face at an emergency phone near campus. The police officer asked about his condition, and Marks allegedly lunged at him and struck the police officer with a closed fist. Police backup responded an the 7’2″ Marks, who temporarily broke free, while being hit with batons and pepper spray, was eventually subdued.

When Marks was questioned by a police — after he calmed down and was in custody the hospital — he blamed his behavior on “MasterChef” host Gordon Ramsay. He said Gordon Ramsay possessed his body and “transformed him into God.” Marks was charged with aggravated battery of an officer and attempting to disarm an officer, both felonies with Marks facing a possible 14-year maximum sentence. He currently remains in the hospital. His case was in court on Wednesday, and was granted a continuance until November 6, 2013.

Josh Marks was from Jackson, Mississippi. He served as a U.S. Army Contract Specialist.
