Schaumburg Police Lieutenant Kurt Metzger Graduates FBI National Academy

Schaumburg Police Lt. Kurt Metzger was among two hundred eight law enforcement officers who recently graduated from the FBI National Academy Program at Quantico, Virginia. The 254th Session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 49 states. Also included in the class were members of law enforcement from the District of Columbia, 22 international countries, three military organizations, and one federal civilian organization.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy Program, held at the FBI Academy, offers 10 weeks of advanced investigative, management, and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies. On average, these officers have 19 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions. Training for the program is provided by the FBI Academy instructional staff, Special Agents, and other staff members holding advanced degrees, many of whom are recognized internationally in their fields of expertise. A total of 47,034 graduates now represent the FBI National Academy since it began in July 1935. Of this number, approximately 29,521 are still active in law enforcement work.

Lt. Metzger began his career with the Schaumburg Police Department in 1989. He served as a patrol officer until 1995 when he was transferred to the Investigations Division. While assigned to the Investigations Division; he served as a juvenile detective, crime against person detective, and was a member of the Major Case Assistant Team. Lt. Metzger was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in August of 2007, then to the rank of Lieutenant in July of 2010. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Division as the dayshift Watch Commander. Lt. Metzger is married to Cindy and they have two children; Troy, age 27, and Rachael, age 16.
