Bike Theft at Downtown Metra Station on Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 5:04 PM Sunday of a bike theft at the downtown Metra train station, 45 West Northwest Highway Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders took a gray Raleigh men’s C40 mountain racing bike.

The bike, valued at $700-$800, was parked, locked in a bicycle rack.

Police reviewed video surveillance captured images that showed a male subject take a bolt cutters out of his backpack and apparently cut the bike lock cable. The subject was described as wearing a black shirt, black pants, and carrying a red backpack. He arrived on his own bike and left on his own bike.

The subject apparently removed the lock and left the bike there. Then he or another offender took the bike at a later time. The removal of the Raleigh bike was not reviewed on video security.

The crime involving defeating the lock is reported to have occurred on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 12:20 a.m.
