
A suspect who lives in unincorporated Arlington Heights near Buffalo Grove Road faces three felony charges after after allegedly shooting a gun at another person during a domestic altercation at The Arbors of Buffalo Grove condominium complex.

Dotson’s arrest and charges follow an investigation by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.
Buffalo Grove officers responded at about 9 a.m. Saturday, July 11, to The Arbors of Buffalo Grove on Oak Creek Drive to assist Cook County sheriff’s deputies with a domestic incident.
Ernie Dotson’s home address on Ellen Drive is in unincorporated Arlington Heights (Wheeling Township), and is located in the jurisdiction of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, while The Arbors of Buffalo Grove on Oak Creek Drive is located in the jurisdiction of the Buffalo Grove Police Department.
There are unincorporated Arlington Heights mailing addresses and unincorporated Buffalo Grove mailing addresses on Ellen Drive just south of Dundee Road. The Arbors is located across Dundee Road on Oak Creek Drive north of Dundee Road and west of Buffalo Grove Road in the Village of Buffalo Grove.
Investigators indicated that Dotson allegedly displayed a firearm, and discharged the gun toward another person during an altercation in The Arbor condominium complex’s parking lot. The gunfire struck the victim’s vehicle, but no injuries were reported. A firearm was recovered at The Arbors scene by police investigators.
Cook County Sheriff’s deputies detained Dotson and a juvenile family member before Buffalo Grove police officers arrived. Both were taken to the Buffalo Grove Police Department, then Ernie Dotson was charged.
Ernie Dotson is detained pre-trial in Cook County Jail Division 5, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Dotson’s housing location may not be updated, since Division 5 is a primary hub for the intake, processing, property retrieval, and central bonding of individuals — not a general housing unit. Dotson was booked Sunday, July 12, 2026
Ernie Dotson’s next court date is August 7, 2026 in Rolling Meadows Circuit Court.
