The Wheeling Police Department is investigating the death of a 55-year-old Wheeling man following an incident that occurred late Saturday evening, July 4, 2026 in a neighborhood of townhomes just south of the intersection of Lake Cook Road and Lexington Drive in Wheeling.
On Saturday, July 4, 2026, at approximately 11:50 p.m., police officers from the Wheeling Police Department responded to the block of 1100 Wildberry Court for a report of a subject not breathing. Upon arrival, police officers discovered a 55-year-old unresponsive male. Wheeling Fire Department paramedics immediately rendered emergency medical aid before transporting the victim to Glenbrook Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
As detectives continued their investigation, they determined the victim had sustained physical injuries believed to be consistent with a domestic incident prior to his death. Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the event.
A person of interest has been taken into custody. Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the community, according to the Wheeling Police Department.
The investigation remains active and is being conducted by the Wheeling Police Department in coordination with the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and when appropriate, according to the Wheeling Police Department. The Wheeling Police Department did not disclose any information regarding a weapon or the type of physical injuries. No information or description was initially provided about the person of interest. Additionally, the Cook County Medical Examiners Office did not indicate a cause of death or manner of death.
