Kildeer police officers and Lake Zurich firefighters and paramedics responded about 1:10 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026 to a report of a crash with injuries at Rand Road (US-12) and Deer Park Boulevard in Deer Park.

Five people were transported with non-life-threatening injuries to nearby hospitals after a four-vehicle crash at Rand Road (Route 12) and Deer Park Boulevard.

The main drive to Deer Park Town Center south of the intersection (Deer Park Boulevard) is in Deer Park; and the main drive to The Shops of Kildeer north of the intersection (unnamed) is located in Kildeer. The border of the Village of Deer Park (south) and the Village of Kildeer (north) is located at the crash intersection. Lake County Sheriff’s Office has jurisdiction in Deer Park, and Kildeer Police Department has jurisdiction in Kildeer. Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department jurisdiction includes Deer Park and Kildeer.

Ultimately Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Kildeer police officers, Lake Zurich firefighters and paramedics, Barrington firefighters and paramedics, and Long Grove firefighters and paramedics were assigned to the crash scene.

The initial investigation indicates a 61 year-old driver from Elk Grove Village, driving a dark gray 2013 Ford F-150 was traveling westbound on Route 12, and allegedly the driver of the pickup truck disobeyed a red light at a traffic signal while first impacting two vehicles almost simultaneously.

A 2012 Toyota, driven by a 61-year-old Wauconda woman, was headed eastbound on Route 12. The driver of the Toyota attempted to turn left to travel northeast into The Shops at Kildeer shopping center on the north side of US-12, using the outside lane (Lane 2) of two turn lanes on US-12 EAST.

Another driver, traveling in a 2012 Chevrolet, was a 71-year-old Lake Zurich woman, who was in the inside turn lane (Lane 1) of two turn lanes. The driver in the Chevrolet simultaneously attempted to turn left from US-12 EAST to travel northeast into the driveway of The Shops at Kildeer.

Allegedly, the driver of the Ford pickup truck disregarded a red light while traveling on US-12 WEST and struck both the Chevrolet and the Toyota in the intersection.

A fourth vehicle, a 2018 Mercedes-Benz, was also struck by the pickup truck after the other two vehicles were struck, as the driver of the pickup truck veered right toward the north side of US-12 WEST. The Mercedes Benz was driven by a 64-year-old Buffalo Grove man, who was attempting to exit southwest from the driveway of The Shops at Kildeer when his Mercedes-Benz was struck.

Summary citations for the driver of the Ford pickup truck were pending, but the driver was likely cited for disobeying a red light causing a crash, and failure to yield causing a crash.

Disobeying a red light (625 ILCS 5/11-305) that causes a crash is a moving violation, usually treated as a petty offense. Consequences include a fine up to $1,000, court costs, 20 points on the defendant’s driver’s license, and possibly court supervision. A red light violation with a crash may trigger higher penalties, and likely an elevated insurance rate resulting in an increase in insurance premium expense. Younger drivers (with 100+ points within 12 months), or older drivers (21 year and older with 110+ points within 12 months) face driver’s license suspension. Defendants also face possible civil lawsuits.

Failure to yield and/or failure to reduce speed, resulting in a crash, is typically charged under 625 ILCS 5/11-601 (Failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident) or specific intersection statutes like 625 ILCS 5/11-904 or 5/11-902, which are generally treated as petty offenses that result in fines, 15 to 20 points on the defendant’s driver’s license, and insurance premium increases.
