Barrington Hills Police Department and Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District responded about 11:03 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2026 for a three-vehicle crash with injuries involving a rolled over semi-dump truck, a Ford pickup/utility truck, and a Honda Pilot SUV at Alqonquin Road and Old Sutton Road.
Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District paramedics transported a total of four victims to St. Alexius Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The semi truck driver was treated on the scene and released.
The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a 2000 Peterbilt semi-dump truck was traveling north on Old Sutton Road, and entered the intersection when the driver of a 2010 Ford work truck who was traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road and collided with the semi-dump truck. The semi-truck overturned, spilling its load of gravel. The Ford work utility pickup truck, and then struck a 2011 Honda Pilot SUV that was traveling west on Algonquin Road.
Alqonquin Road was closed between Dundee Road/Brinker Road and Bateman Road for more than four hours while the scene was cleaned up.
The Barrington Hills Police Department did not provide any information regarding citations or charges connected to the crash.
There are stop signs located at northbound Old Sutton Road and southbound Old Sutton Road at the intersection with Algonquin Road (Route 62), which is an oblique intersection. In addition to being an oblique intersection, there is a blind curve to that west that obstructs visibility — obstructed by woods that are to close to the shoulder. Area residents have been requesting a stoplight at this location for many years.
Algonquin Road is a two-lane rural highway with paved shoulders that are less than the width of the highway lanes, and near the intersection are less than three feet wide. The Speed Limit on Algonquin Road is 55 MPH, according to Google Maps street view images captured September 2024. People that are familiar with the area report that many drivers in the area travel around 70 MPH.
First notification of the crash and road closures was provided 27 minutes after police fire and EMS were dispatched.
The Village Manager of Barrington Hills runs a municipality that is a news desert regarding Public Safety Transparency. Police department radios have been encrypted since June 2013, and fire department radios have been encrypted since October 2025 with no significant PIO/News Media Partnership, and no alternative methods to keep people informed regularly about public safety issues in real time. While many municipalities and counties are dedicated to transparency and respect for informed citizens, leadership is missing from the village manager, police chief and fire chief with no significant remedies to inform people how to reduce risks and reinforce good decisions to live safely. Meanwhile, the Village of Barrington Hills and Northwest Central Dispatch System gather volumes and volumes of data on how crashes, fires, crimes, and other public safety incidents occur without adequate sharing of information to build a community of informed citizens. An example of the importance of informed citizens is the power of information that could be used to promote the installation of traffic signals at the intersection of Algonquin Road and Old Sutton Road and other roadway safety improvements in the area.
