Lake County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigators are investigating a fatal single-vehicle traffic crash that occurred Monday morning in Deer Park.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Lake Zurich firefighters and paramedics responded about 9:44 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2026, to a report of a vehicle crash with a tree and a person lying in the road on Ela Road north of Long Grove Road (A49) in Deer Park. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and discovered a BMW sedan with catastrophic damage and a male teen deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation shows the BMW, driven by a 17-year-old, was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Ela Road. While traveling at a high speed, it appears the driver lost control, drove off the roadway, and struck a tree.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded, and an autopsy is being scheduled.

The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.

Ela Road is two-lane rural highway with a narrow asphalt shoulder on each side of the road. The Speed Limit on Ela Road north of Long Grove Road is 40 MPH southbound and 45 MPH northbound, according to Google Maps Street View images captured June 2024.
