Smoking Materials Determined to Be Cause of House Fire on Northshore Drive, Wauconda

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Wauconda responded about 8:40 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2026 to a report of a house fire in the block of 1100 Northshore Drive in Wauconda. Wauconda Police Department officers arrived prior to fire crews and deployed a fire extinguisher, helping to limit the fire’s spread until firefighters arrived.

The first-arriving unit was on scene within five minutes and reported a working fire at the exterior, rear of a single-story residence. The fire was extinguished within ten minutes of arrival. Due to damaged utilities and portions of the structure, the residence has been deemed uninhabitable. No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters.

Agencies assisting at the scene included Wauconda Police Department, Countryside Fire Protection District, Grayslake Fire Protection District, Lake Zurich Fire Department, and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District. During the incident, Nunda Rural Fire Protection District and Mundelein Fire Department provided station coverage within the Wauconda District.

The fire has been determined to be accidental in nature and was caused by smoking materials, according to the Wauconda Fire District. Estimated damage to the structure is approximately $50,000.

The Wauconda Fire District reminds residents to test their smoke alarms and replace batteries as needed ahead of the upcoming time change.
