DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced today, Friday, January 16, 2026 that law enforcement in DuPage County continues their efforts to arrest and charge anyone accused of attempting to flee from the police. Last night, officers with the Addison, Bensenville, Elmhurst and Glen Ellyn Police Departments arrested four individuals in unrelated incidents, each charged with one count of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, a Class 4 Felony, including to other Misdemeanor and petty offenses. In two of today’s cases the Court granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for the defendant.

These most recent arrests include:

Michael Tricoci, age 23, of the 200 block of North Craig Place, Lombard
Allegedly on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at approximately 2:58 p.m., Michael Tricoci fled from an Addison police officer as the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Lake Street. Michael Tricoci fled the officer at speeds of approximately 80 mph in a 35-mph zone, was weaving in and out of traffic, and at one point, veered into oncoming traffic. Authorities took Tricoci into custody after he crashed into a semi-truck. Tricoci is also charged with Misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses including Speeding 35+ Over Limit, Reckless Driving, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis by Driver, Improper Lane Usage, Disobey Stop Sign, Disobey Traffic Control Signal and Operate Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Judge Joshua Dieden granted the State’s motion to deny Tricoci pre-trial release. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 9, 2026, in front of Judge Brian Jacobs.

Jamal Turner, age 26, of the 3200 block of West Crystal Street, Chicago
Allegedly on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at approximately 10:48 p.m., Jamal Turner fled from an Elmhurst police officer in the area of Church Street and I-294 when the officer attempted to pull him over for driving without a front license plate. Allegedly, Jamal Turner entered I-294 and was traveling at speeds in excess of 60 mph in a construction zone on the expressway. The officer terminated pursuit out of safety concerns. The following day, the vehicle was spotted in Villa Park at which time officers from the Elmhurst Police Department responded to the location and took Turner into custody. Jamal Turner is also charged with Misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses including Driving While License Suspended, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis by a Driver, No Registration Plate on Vehicle Front/Rear, Obstructed Front Windshield and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Judge Dieden denied the State’s motion to detain Turner pre-trial. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 9, 2026, in front of Judge Margaret O’Connell.

Breyanna Matthews, age 26, of the 100 block of S. 11th Street, Dekalb.
Allegedly on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at approximately 10:41 p.m., as Breyanna Matthews fled from a Glen Ellyn police officer, she drove over a curb and struck a fire hydrant causing more than $300 in damage. Additionally, Breyanna Matthews is charged with Misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses including Driving while License Suspended, Disobeying a Traffic Control Device, Improper Lane Usage and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Matthews was released at the scene on her own recognizance. Her next court date is scheduled for February 19, 2026, in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.

Allegedly on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Eduardo Nieves fled from Bensenville police officers at speeds of approximately 81 mph in a 30-mph zone. After Nieves allegedly entered I-290 eastbound, officers terminated pursuit out of safety concerns. Later that evening, after learning Eduardo Nieves had allegedly returned to DuPage County, officers re-engaged pursuit and ultimately spike-stripped Nieves’ vehicle. The pursuit ended at Nieves’ home. Nieves is also charged with Misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses including Attempt Fleeing and Eluding, Driving while License Suspended, Reckless Driving, Speeding 35+ Over, Disobeying a Traffic Control Device and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Judge Dieden granted the State’s motion to deny Nieves pre-trial release. His next court date is scheduled for February 9, 2026, in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.

“In 2020, DuPage County recorded a combined 158 cases of Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer and Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer. Since that time, we have seen an alarming increase in these numbers resulting in 409 cases recorded in 2025, a 159% increase. This staggering increase is completely unacceptable. Law enforcement in DuPage County is determined to aggressively, yet safely, do what is necessary to apprehend those who unnecessarily put not only their life, but the lives of the officers involved and thousands of innocent motorists at great risk. We will continue to use every tool at our disposal, including helicopters, drones and the assistance of neighboring jurisdictions to arrest and charge anyone who attempts to flee from police. As I have said countless times since the beginning of this epidemic, if you hear sirens and see lights behind you, pull over. Do not attempt to flee, you will be unsuccessful. I thank the Addison, Bensenville, Elmhurst and Glen Ellyn Police Departments for their work on these most recent cases and for their ongoing efforts in keeping our roads safe for all. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Sean Kinsella and Daniel Orescanin for their efforts in securing charges against these four defendants.”

— DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin

Members of the public are reminded that these complaints contain only charges and are not proof of the defendants’ guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
