A Park Ridge woman died about 1:39 a.m. Sunday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital after she was hit by a vehicle Saturday morning about 6:26 a.m. The woman’s identity was released by the Park Ridge Police Department about 12:32 p.m. Sunday as Katherine Baransky, age 65, of Park Ridge.
Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Park Ridge responded about 6:26 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026 to a report of pedestrian hit by a vehicle at Cumberland Avenue and Peterson Avenue in Park Ridge. The initial report indicated that a person was down and unresponsive in the intersection, and that the incident may have involved a hit-and-run driver.
The Park Ridge Police Department confirmed that there is investigation of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian that occurred in the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Peterson Avenue in Park Ridge. The accident occurred at approximately 6:26 a.m., and involved a vehicle that struck a pedestrian, according to police. The pedestrian was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The Park Ridge Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is conducting the investigation. No charges or citations have been issued at this time; however, the investigation remains ongoing, according to the Park Ridge Police Department.
The Park Ridge Police Department did not initially confirm or deny that the incident was a hit-and-run crash.
The intersection, located near Mariano’s was closed as police conducted the on-scene investigation.
