
The identity of a man found deceased near railroad tracks in Libertyville was released Monday, January 5, 2026 by the Lake County Coroner’s Office as 30-year-old Allen Chiquini, of Mundelein. There has been an updated to the manner of death. Earlier on Monday, January 5, 2026, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results indicated that Mr. Chiquini died from blunt force head injuries consistent with being struck by a train. However, additional investigation, including review of video evidence, determined that Allen Chiquini was aboard an earlier northbound train, but he thought he was on a southbound train. After realizing he was on the wrong train, he attempted to open the regular passenger doors, but his attempts failed. Next, he found a way to exit through the rear door of the last train car by climbing over the safety barrier gate. He succeed climbing past the safety barrier gate, and was able to exit through the rear door, and positioned himself outside the moving train. Next, Allen Chiquini either fell, stepped or jumped off the moving train, resulting in his fatal traumatic injuries.
On Friday, January 2, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Libertyville Police Department, Libertyville Fire Department and Metra Police Department responded to the area of Ellis Avenue and Winchester Road for a report of an unresponsive person. First responders arrived and learned that the crew from an outbound Metra Train saw the body along the train tracks and stopped the train to report the incident. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the 30-year-old man dead at the scene.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing by the Metra Police Department.
INITIAL REPORT FRIDAY …
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Libertyville and police officers from Metra responded about 5:35 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2025 to a report from Metra that there was a body lying on the Metra Milwaukee District North line northwest of the railroad crossing at Winchester Road in Libertyville. Initially, there was uncertainty whether a train hit the person. The train that was on the scene was not initially considered to have hit the person.
Metra was classifying the incident on X as police activity and police investigation as the reason for the halted trains. An investigator was overheard saying that the train that was on the scene did not hit the person, a spokesperson for Metra initially said a train did not hit the person.
The Lake County Coroner was assigned to the scene to begin the investigation of cause of death and the identity of the person.
Trains on the Metra Milwaukee District North Line were operating with delays.
