DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Burr Ridge Chief of Police Marc Loftus announced Saturday, December 27, 2025 that Judge Anne Therieau Hayes has granted the State’s motion to detain pre-trial a Missouri resident accused of stabbing a man at a Burr Ridge Hotel on Christmas Eve. Uberclein Vazquez Villareal, age 40, of the City of California in central Missouri, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning charged with one count of Armed Violence (Class X Felony) and two counts of Aggravated Battery (Class 3 Felony).
On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at approximately 2:25 a.m., Burr Ridge police officers responded to a call at the Extended Stay America located at 15W122 South Frontage Road, for a report of a disturbance. When officers arrived, they made contact with an individual hiding behind the hotel front desk who indicated that someone had been stabbed or was stabbing themself. Officers then proceeded to Room 345 where they made contact with Vazquez Villareal standing in the hallway outside of the room with his hands covered in blood. Officers immediately placed Vazquez Villareal into custody. Upon entering the room, officers found an unresponsive man laying on an inflatable bed with multiple stab wounds to the upper chest/torso area. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Vazquez Villareal and two other individuals, including the victim and the man who met officers at the front desk, were sharing a hotel room while celebrating Christmas Eve. At some point in time that evening, Vazquez Villareal allegedly began harassing the victim as he slept. When the other individual briefly left the room to take a phone call, Vazquez Villareal allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife that had a blade length of approximately 4.5 inches.
“The type of violence alleged in this case is shocking and will not be tolerated in DuPage County. The quick response of the Burr Ridge Police Department on Christmas Eve sends a strong message that in DuPage County, law enforcement is always at the ready to respond to any call that threatens public safety. I commend the Burr Ridge Police Department for their efforts on this case as well as the Downers Grove, Elmhurst and Hinsdale Police Departments for their assistance. I also thank DuPage MERIT and Assistant State’s Attorneys Helen Kapas, Kevin Kosman and Nicholas Covert for their work in securing charges over the holiday against Mr. Vazquez Villareal.”
— DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin
“I want to commend the quick actions of the witness who reported the incident and the officers who responded immediately, took the suspect into custody, and rendered lifesaving aid to the victim. I also want to recognize the outstanding work of our detectives, who worked tirelessly over the past 48 hours with the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office to thoroughly investigate this incident and secure appropriate charges. I’d also like to thank the Hinsdale, Willowbrook, Darien, and Elmhurst Police Departments for their assistance during this investigation. Their dedication and professionalism exemplify our commitment to public safety and accountability.”
— Burr Ridge Chief of Police Marc Loftus
Vazquez Villareal’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 20, 2026, in front of Judge Margaret O’Connell.
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
