
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Libertyville and police officers from Metra responded about 5:35 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2025 to a report from Metra that there was a body lying on the Metra Milwaukee District North line northwest of the railroad crossing at Winchester Road in Libertyville. Initially, there was uncertainty whether a train hit the person. The train that was on the scene was not initially considered to have hit the person.
Metra was classifying the incident on X as police activity and police investigation as the reason for the halted trains. An investigator was overheard saying that the train that was on the scene did not hit the person, a spokesperson for Metra initially said a train did not hit the person.
The Lake County Coroner was assigned to the scene to begin the investigation of cause of death and the identity of the person.
Trains on the Metra Milwaukee District North Line were operating with delays.
