DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Bensenville Police Chief Brad Swanson announced Wednesday, December 24, 2025 that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a Bensenville male suspect accused of attempting to kidnap a special needs Jewel-Osco grocery store employee while she was at work. Ismael Andrade Pino, age 53, of the 1200 block of Medina Street in Bensenville, appeared in First Appearance Court Wednesday morning charged with one count of Attempt Kidnapping (Class 3 Felony), two counts of Aggravated Battery in a Public Place (Class 3 Felony) and two counts of Unlawful Restraint (Class 4 Felony).
On Monday, December 22, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the victim was a twenty-year-old female special needs individual, who was at work at the Jewel-Osco grocery store, 1127 South York Road in Bensenville. The victim was collecting shopping carts from the parking lot when she was allegedly approached by an individual, later identified as Andrade Pino. Allegedly, Andrade Pino told the victim to go to his car, but she told him “no.” Next, Andrade Pino allegedly blocked the victim’s path as she was collecting the carts. He allegedly grabbed her by the neck and told her to go to his car. Allegedly, Andrade Pino released her, but stayed by her and grabbed her a second time, and then released her again when it appeared another person was coming from the store. On the morning of Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Andrade Pino returned to the Jewel at approximately 9:00 a.m. He was observed by Jewel staff, who contacted law enforcement. Bensenville police arrived on the scene, and Andrade Pino was taken into custody.
“The charges against Mr. Andrade Pino are disturbing. I commend the victim in this case for having the courage to refuse Mr. Andrade Pino’s orders and for alerting the proper authorities. I thank the Bensenville Police Department for their efforts on this case as well as the staff at Jewel for contacting law enforcement. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Lindt for her efforts in preparing a strong case against the defendant.”
— DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin
“I would like to formally commend and thank the officers who responded swiftly and professionally to the attempted kidnapping that allegedly occurred on Monday in the Jewel parking lot. Upon receiving the call, responding officers immediately secured the area and initiated a thorough investigation. Through the coordinated efforts of our patrol officers, along with Detective Joe Melone and Detective Kristian Casillas, investigators were able to quickly identify and locate the suspect involved. As a direct result of their decisive actions and teamwork, the suspect was taken into custody. The Village of Bensenville recognizes and appreciates the dedication, training, and professionalism demonstrated by all officers involved in this incident. Their response reflects a strong commitment to protecting the safety and well-being of our community. I would also like to extend our appreciation to DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his Office for their assistance and collaboration in this case.”
— Bensenville Police Chief Brad Swanson
Andrade Pino’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 20, 2026, in front of Judge Mia McPherson.
“Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”
