Hoffman Estates police officers, firefighters and paramedics responded Sunday around noon to a crash on Golf Road near Bartlett Road that trapped an Aurora woman, Jenny Evaristo, in a burning vehicle.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Hoffman Estates responded just after 12:30 p.m. to a report of a crash with injuries and entrapment on Golf Road between Barrington Road and Bartlett Road in Hoffman Estates. Two vehicles crashed and left the roadway. One of the vehicles struck a tree and caught fire, trapping two people in the vehicle. Bystanders were able to rescue a man out of the burning vehicle, but were unable to get a woman out of the burning vehicle. One crash victim was lying on the ground when police, firefighters and paramedics arrived.
The woman, seriously injured with burn injuries, was extricated, treated, and transported by Hoffman Estates Fire Department firefighters and paramedics. She was transported to a local hospital, and then airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead around midnight Sunday/Monday.
The condition of the male victim in the burning vehicle rescued by Good Samaritans was not disclosed.
The crash victim who died in the fire was identified as Jenny Evaristo, 23, of Aurora.
The occupants of the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening.
Initially, no charges were filed. Golf Road between Bartlett Road and Barrington Road is a two-lane rural-like roadway (one-lane in each direction separated by a double-yellow line). There are medium-width paved shoulders — also in each direction. The roadway separates forest preserve property, and there are thick woods on each side — north and south. The Speed Limit is 50 MPH, according to Goggle Maps Street View images captured May 2025. There are no passing zones within this stretch of road that connects Hoffman Estates to Elgin, and is near the Arthur L. Janura Preserve (Forest Preserves of Cook County).
