Metra police and Arlington Heights police surround a vehicle in the Metra Arlington Park parking lot where a woman underneath a vehicle was in a standoff with Metra and Arlington Heights police (CARDINAL NEWS).

Metra police officers began an an investigation Sunday morning, November 9, 2025 regarding two people in a parked car in the parking lot of the Metra train station at 2121 West Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights. Police were in the process of identifying two individuals, a male white and a female black that were sitting or sleeping inside a car Sunday morning. The investigation began in the 10 o’clock hour, and Metra police officers asked for assistance from Arlington Heights police officers to see if the local police officers could help with the identification of one of the people in the car. At some point around 11:06, the female in the car was not cooperative, and a Metra police officer thought he had been stabbed in the hand, but actually there was only blood from the woman or his own abrasion on his hand. The Metra police called for two ambulances, apparently one for the police officer, and one for the female, who got underneath her car and apparently began stabbing herself.

The Metra police officer thought he suffered a superficial laceration from the woman’s knife, and was transported to Northwest Community Hospital. However, after the commotion settled and after medical evaluation, there was no laceration from a knife discovered.

When the scene turned chaotic about 11:06 a.m., Arlington Heights Police Department sent a large response of police officers to assist the Metra police officers. Additional Metra Police officers also responded to the Arlington Park train station parking lot. Firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights Police Department responded as well, and staged nearby.

A taser was deployed at 11:10 a.m.

A male white individual was handcuffed and taken into custody by Metra police. He was released with a court date for trespassing.

Arlington Heights police officers took over the attempt to restrain the female, and to get her out from under the car. She remained under the car, and it was assumed that she was still armed with a knife. A Metra police officer put on armor, and police worked together on a strategy to secure the female. Police were able to remove her from under the car about 11:58 a.m. She was secured, and Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics moved up to prepare for treatment and transport. The woman was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Immediately after the scene was secured, any Metra trains scheduled to stop at Arlington Park that hadn’t already passed the train station were allowed to be back in service to make stops at Arlington Park.

Metra police are investigating the case.
