Wheeling police officers responded around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2025 to a report of a battery at the MainStay Suites Northbrook Wheeling, 8000 Capitol Drive. A short time later NIPAS SWAT Team members and units were assigned to the hotel. Apparently, the suspect inside the hotel is armed. Wheeling Police Department posted an alert about the police activity on Facebook at 1:12 p.m. Thursday.
***UPDATE*** The situation has been resolved without incident. Police will be clearing the area.
“There is a large police presence in the area of Capitol Drive in Wheeling. Please stay clear of the area. Further updates will be forthcoming when available.”
There is a lockdown at nearby National Louis University – Wheeling Campus, according to NBC 5 Chicago. National Louis University is located next-door to the hotel. Both facilities are located near the northwest corner of Palatine Road and Wolf Road in Wheeling. NBC 5 Chicago had a helicopter over the scene by about 12:30 p.m.
The Harper College Career and Learning Center, a little further south on Wolf Road, was not on lockdown as of 2:30 p.m.
