DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Chief of Police Roy Selvik announced Saturday, November 1, 2025 that Judge Michael Burton has granted the State’s motion to detain pre-trial an Addison male resident accused of shooting at police, striking one officer in the back during a four-hour standoff at his home Thursday morning, October 30, 2025.

Salvador Lozano, age 45, of the block of 200 East La Porte Drive, appeared in First Appearance Court Saturday morning charged with …

one count of Attempt First Degree Murder (Class X Felony),

one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm at an Officer (Class X Felony),

one count of Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer (Class X Felony), and

one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by Felon (Class 2 Felony).

On Thursday, October 30, 2025, at approximately 11:01 a.m., the Addison Police Department responded to the block of 220 East La Porte Drive for a 911 call from an individual, later identified as Lozano, who requested that “people to come find his dogs or his people will go looking for them and the police should do their job.” After a brief interaction, the police officer left.

A short time later, Addison police officers responded to a call at the same location from a neighbor stating that Lozano was acting erratically. Upon their arrival, Lozano allegedly told officers that if they did not find his dog he would “reign fire down at 12 o’clock.” After speaking with police officers for a brief time, Lozano began walking up his driveway, and allegedly sprayed pepper spray in the direction of the officers, which was inhaled by two officers. Lozano then threw the pepper spray can behind him and entered his residence. After additional officers and an Addison Police Social Worker arrived at the scene, Lozano exited his home carrying an unknown item and began shouting at the officers only to return to his home when officers approached him.

As Lozano returned to his home, he allegedly threw an unknown liquid at police officers from the item he had been carrying. A short time later, Lozano allegedly fired approximately six to seven shots at officers from inside his home, striking one officer in the back as he retreated for cover. The officer, who was wearing a Kevlar vest, was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Four officers returned fire at this time. Lozano fired additional shots from his residence at approximately …

At approximately 3:15 p.m., SWAT took Lozano into custody. When processing the scene, authorities located approximately fifty shell casings on the first floor of the home and more than two hundred shell casings in the basement. Authorities also located three Glock handguns, each with an extended magazine, two drum magazines, two additional extended magazines, and multiple other magazines. Additionally, authorities found multiple spent and unspent 45 mm and 9 mm rounds throughout the home. After canvassing the neighborhood, officers were able to locate bullet holes and expended bullets at seven nearby residences as well as two Addison Police Department squad cars. All shots fired at the police vehicles and residences were allegedly fired by Lozano.

DuPage MERIT is currently conducting an independent investigation into the officer involved shooting.

“Armed barricades create an immediate threat not just for responding law enforcement, but for the entire community. With every second that passes, the risk of violence and potential tragedy escalates. For nearly four hours last Thursday, responding officers and an entire community were on edge, hoping for the best yet fearing the worst. We are all extremely thankful that no officers sustained serious injury, and no innocent members of the community were injured. I thank the Addison Police Department whose outstanding work in bringing an extremely tense situation safely under control quite possibly saved countless lives. Their courage, professionalism and concern for the safety of not just those involved, including the defendant, but for the entire community, is to be commended and I am extremely proud to work alongside these brave men and women. I thank the countless law enforcement agencies, particularly the Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigative Team and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System who, without hesitation, responded to this dangerous situation to assist however they could. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Eric Vincent, Anna Derkacz and Kristin Sullivan for their work the past two days in securing charges against Mr. Lozano.”

— DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin

“This was an intense, extremely dangerous situation where an individual allegedly tried to take the lives of our police officers. Their swift actions, decisiveness and protection over nearby residents prevented anyone from being seriously hurt and brought the incident to a peaceful resolution. We were fortunate to have such a large-scale response from SWAT teams and nearby agencies who assisted, and I want to thank the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System as well as the Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigative Team for their efforts. I would also like to thank all of our partnering police and fire agencies for their response, in particular the Addison Fire Department, Villa Park Police Department and Elmhurst Police Department, along with so many others. We are grateful for the amount of support we experienced, and a special mention goes to State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his team for their endless effort and support.”

— Addison Chief of Police Roy Selvik

Lozano’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 24, 2025, in front of Judge Mia McPherson.
