Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. Sunday, October 19, 2025 to a report of a single-vehicle crash into a house in the block of 1700 West Grove Street in Arlington Heights.
Police, firefighters, and paramedics on arrival discovered a small, white crossover SUV crashed into the west wall of the house at the southeast corner of Wilke Road and Grove Street in Arlington Heights. Firefighters and paramedics worked with an extrication tool to force open a door of the car to extricated the driver. The intrusion of the car into the house was about as far as the base of the windshield of the vehicle.
The driver refused EMS transport to the hospital.
The Village of Arlington Heights Building Department was assigned to check for structural damage. The hole left in the west wall near the corner of the house was sealed and secured.
The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle, and the motorist was apparently traveling southbound on Wilke Road, crossed over two oncoming lanes, and a sidewalk. The crashed vehicle also apparently smashed over a Pace Bus 696 Route Sign.
Wilke Road is a 4-lane arterial road (2 lanes in each direction) with a double-yellow line median and a Speed Limit of 35 MPH. There is no left-turn lane to eastbound Grove Street, left turns are allowed to Grove Street from southbound Wilke Road.
Road conditions were wet and slippery with significant wet leaves on the roadway. Air temperature was well above freezing
Initially, the reason the motorist left the roadway is unknown.
Neighbors have commented that the intersection of Wilke Road and Grove Street is a location of frequent crash scenes. Neighbors have been concerned with vehicles hitting houses or hitting pedestrians on the sidewalk nearby.
The crash scene at Wilke Road and Grove Street is a short block west of the fatal crash scene involving electric-powered bike and a pickup truck that killed the teen operator of the bike at Grove Street and Reuter Drive in Arlington Heights.
