An adult female driver was involved in a crash of her Lexus crossover SUV with an inbound Metra train in Fox River Grove Monday morning, and was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Monday morning, where she was hospitalized with injuries that were initially evaluated as minor injuries.

Police from Fox River Grove and the Metra Police Department, and firefighters and paramedics from Fox River Grove Fire Protection District responded about 10:59 a.m. Monday, October 13, 2025 to a vehicle vs train crash at the Union Pacific Northwest Line railroad crossing near Northwest Highway and Algonquin Road in Fox River Grove.

Police, firefighters and paramedics arrived to find an inbound Metra commuter train stopped across the intersection after being involved in a crash with a silver Lexus RX 350 SUV with an adult female driver.

The driver had exited the vehicle before emergency personnel arrived, and the vehicle was found with moderate driver’s side damage on the north side of the railroad tracks.

The adult female driver was out of the vehicle before emergency personnel arrived. She complained of minor injuries, and was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

The crash involved Union Pacific Northwest line Train #646, scheduled to arrive Chicago’s Ogilvie Transportation Center at 12:10 p.m.

The scene was cleared by noon.

Metra trains were halted in both directions during rescue and recovery and while the scene was investigated by the Metra Police Department. Union Pacific rail workers inspected the tracks, and inbound and outbound trains resumed transit about 12:30 p.m. with delayed service. Train delays on the Metra UP-NW were reported as late as 4:00 p.m. Monday.

Algonquin Road crosses the railroad tracks and intersects with Northwest Highway (US-14) in a T-intersection just north of the railroad tracks.

The crash occurred at the same signaled railroad crossing as the 1995 Fox River Grove school bus–train crash that killed seven students and injured 24 on the school bus at about 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 1995. The school bus, driven by a substitute driver, was stopped at a traffic light northbound on Algonquin Road at Northwest Highway while the rear section of the school bus was still on the railroad tracks and was struck by Metra Train 624 inbound to Chicago.
