Firefighters from Marengo Fire District responded about 2:28 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2025 to a report of an attached garage fire connected to a single-family home in the block of 21000 West Coral Road in Marengo. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire showing from the garage. Fire command on scene upgraded the incident to a MABAS box alarm for additional water, manpower, and resources. According to Marengo Fire District, an aggressive attack was made on the garage while additional personnel established operations and a rural water supply positioned at the roadway near the home. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, and firefighters were successful in preventing the fire from spreading into the home’s living spaces or attic.
Two individuals were at the property when the fire started, and no injuries were reported. Six residents are displaced, and the American Red Cross was requested to assist the family.
Sadly, a family dog died as a result of the fire, Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts.
