DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Villa Park Chief of Police Todd Kubish announced today, Wednesday, August 20, 2025 that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a Chicago resident accused of leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen Kia. Louis Robinson, 30, of the 2900 block of West Warren Boulevard in Chicago, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning charged with two counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer, a Class 4 Felony.

The Villa Park Police Department received information at about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2025 that a black 2016 Kia Optima allegedly stolen out of Kenosha, Wisconsin, may be in the area. A short time later, a Villa Park police officer located the Kia at North Avenue and Joyce Avenue at which time the officer activated his emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop. The driver of the Kia, later determined to be Louis Robinson, did not stop, and instead fled eastbound on North Avenue reaching speeds of approximately 108 mph. During the pursuit, Robinson disobeyed red lights at North Avenue and Addison Road, North Avenue and Illinois Route 83 and North Avenue and York Road. Robinson entered I-290 eastbound and continued to flee reaching speeds of approximately 118 miles per hour on I-290. Robinson ultimately came to a stop in the Kia on the shoulder of I-290 after running over three stop sticks that were successfully deployed by officers. Robinson then fled the Kia on foot. He was located and taken into custody approximately twenty minutes later in a dumpster, with the lid closed, in the 500 block of Darmstadt Road, Hillside.

“The apprehension of the defendant in this case once again sends a crystal-clear message that in DuPage County you cannot outrun the law. If you flee from officers, you will quickly realize there is nowhere to go and soon find yourself in custody. Thankfully, no innocent motorists or pedestrians were injured as Mr. Robinson allegedly sped away from authorities and completely ignored stop lights at three extremely busy intersections. Make no mistake, in DuPage County we will use every means available to us, including assistance from other agencies, to keep our streets and communities safe for motorists and pedestrians alike. I thank the Villa Park Police Department for their outstanding work on this case and for their continued efforts in keeping our roadways safe. I also thank the numerous police departments involved for their assistance in the pursuit and apprehension of the defendant as well as Assistant State’s Attorneys Sean Kinsella and Anna Derkacz for their efforts in securing charges against Mr. Robinson.”

— DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin

“Mr. Louis Robinson allegedly drove through Villa Park with willful and wanton disregard for the safety of our community, other drivers on the roadway, and the law enforcement officers on duty at the time. I continue to emphasize to our officers that our mission is to safely and effectively remove individuals like Mr. Robinson from our streets. As Chief, my message is clear and unwavering: if you plan on committing crimes in Villa Park, rest assured you will be arrested and held accountable for your actions. I would like to personally commend the outstanding work of our officers, along with the valuable assistance provided by the Hinsdale, Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Bensenville, Berkeley, Hillside and DuPage County Sheriff’s Departments, as well as State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his team for their legal guidance.”

— Villa Park Chief of Police Todd Kubish

Robinson’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 15, 2025, in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
