Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a male adult after he allegedly strangled and cut a woman with a knife Wednesday evening, July 17, 2025.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 8:25 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2025 to a report of an aggravated battery in progress at an apartment in the block of 600 Washington Avenue in unincorporated Lake Bluff. A person called 911 reporting a man, later identified as Angel Diaz, 25, of the block of 400 Raphael Avenue, unincorporated Lincolnshire, was armed with a knife and threatening others inside the apartment.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and learned Diaz fled from the apartment when he realized someone called 911. A preliminary investigation revealed Diaz is acquainted with the two people who live in the apartment that he was visiting. Earlier, Diaz had arrived and appeared to be intoxicated, according to witnesses. He began an argument with the 25-year-old woman and the 23-year-old man who live at the apartment.
During the argument, Diaz produced a knife and slashed at the woman, cutting her hand. He then choked the woman. Both the woman and the man were able to briefly get away from Diaz and call 911, which caused Diaz to flee. Fortunately, the woman’s injuries did not require medical attention.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies searched the area for Diaz, but were unable to locate him. Overnight, at approximately 12:45 a.m., Sheriff’s 911 Emergency Telecommunicators received a 911 call from the victim stating Diaz was back at the apartment, pounding on the door, and refusing to leave. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies immediately responded and were able to take Diaz into custody.
After reviewing the facts and circumstances of the incident, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges:
Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon
Aggravated Battery – Strangulation
Aggravated Assault
Diaz remains held in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing this morning — Thursday, July 17, 2025.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
