Police, firefighters and paramedics from Huntley responded about about 3:07 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2024 to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle inl the area of Main Street and Coyne Station Road in Huntley. The pedestrian that was injured was working on a construction project in the area, according to Huntley Police Department.

Huntley Engine 945’s crew was nearby when the call was dispatched. The crew was the first fire/EMS crew on the scene, and reported shortly after arrival that they were working a traumatic cardiac arrest. The male worker was transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley where he was listed in critical condition.

Huntley police released information stating that the driver of the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Main Street when the vehicle struck the male, who was working on the shoulder on the south side of Main Street.

Main Street was closed between Charles Sass Parkway and Coyne Station Road for an extended crash investigation as the Huntley Police Department and Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team (K-CART) conducted the investigation.

Main Street (Kane County A47) is a narrow two-lane highway with narrow shoulders and a Speed Limit of 55 MPH. There are mainly open spaces on both sides of the roadway with unincorporated property nearby to the north.

Main Street connects downtown Huntley with the west side of Huntley, including Huntley High School and the Lions Chase subdivision via Kreutzer Road.

USLC locator service personnel were on the scene, but it is initially unknown whether a USLC worker was injured, and what type of work was being done on Main Street near Coyne Station Road. Main Street has been a decade-long topic of development and planning, including a stoplight at Main Street and Kreutzer Road and development of the highway possibly planned for 2025.

Main Street was recently re-surfaced in the area.
