Two Serious Crashes Overnight on Route 41 in Lake Forest — DUI Drivers Suspected in Both

A single-vehicle crash, that seriously injured two people, was followed by another crash that a occurred when an alleged DUI driver crashed into a Lake County Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary Deputy’s marked SUV. The deputy’s SUV was positioned with emergency lights activated while the SUV was blocking traffic during the investigation of the first crash. Initial investigation indicates that alcohol was involved in both crashes.

The driver responsible for the second crash has already been charged with misdemeanor DUI-alcohol, as well as felony Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated DUI with No Insurance. Additional charges information is pending.




Initially, police, firefighters, and paramedics from Lake Forest responded about 10:37 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2023 to a report of a crash with injuries at Route 41 and Route 60 in Lake Forest. The crash was located on southbound Route 41 just south of Route 60.

Police, firefighters and paramedics on the scene discovered the wreckage of a silver Ford Explorer with two passengers with serious injuries. The victims had been ejected from the SUV. Both patients were transported to a hospital where they suffered serious injuries.

A second ambulance was assigned to the scene as firefighters and paramedics set up for treatment and possible extrication, as well. A third ambulance was assigned at about 10:48 p.m. and two patients were transported with serious injuries to a nearby hospital. Firefighters and paramedics cleared the crash scene by about 12:45 a.m. Thursday.




Next, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to return to the scene at about 1:13 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2023 to a report of another crash with injuries at Route 41 and Deerpath in Lake Forest. The crash was located on southbound Route 41 north of Deerpath where the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary Deputy’s marked SUV was positioned to block for the previous crash that was further south on Route 41 near Route 60. Lake Forest police officers and MCAT police investigators were still on scene investigating the first crash

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary Deputy was sitting inside, and was injured, and was transported to a nearby hospital.
