Memorial Day Weekend 2013 activities.

Memorial Day Concert
Saturday, May 25 at 3pm. at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre. A moving tribute to veterans and servicemen will feature Broken Arrow performing classic Vietnam-era songs. The American Legion Post 208 Color Guard will post the Colors. The Mayor will make opening remarks, and the members from the School of Performing Arts will add a medley of patriotic songs. Between songs, there will be dramatic readings of the experiences of Vietnam veterans including a very moving reading by Major General James Mukoyama. In addition, we will honor Arlington’s Fallen Heroes and the sacrifice that they made for our country. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Memorial Park Fund. 10th Annual “got freedom?” Run/Walk by SALUTE, INC.
Sunday, May 26 at 8:00 am starting at Miner School in Arlington Heights.

SALUTE, INC’s 10th annual event offers something for everyone: run the 5K or 10K course, walk the 5K course.

For 5K runners, cross an alternate finish line and sprint into a Cross Fit-style competition sure to test your fitness. “Find out if you have what it takes to run a 5k and then attack a grueling sequence of basic training exercises. Challenge yourself. Celebrate freedom. Honor our heroes.”

Memorial Day Parade
Monday, May 27; Step off at 9:30 am.
Parade route runs from Village Hall to Veterans Memorial Park;

Military units, veterans, bands, scouts and many more will march in this fantastic Memorial Day celebration. This year, Arlington Heights invites any veteran from the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Middle East Wars to march in the Memorial Day Parade. All these veterans will receive a well deserved “Welcome Home” along the parade route from the people of Arlington Heights.

Memorial Day Ceremony — Tribute Following the Memorial Parade

Monday, May 27; immediately after the Memorial Day Parade at Veterans Memorial Park;

This beautiful tribute will include honor all those who have given their lives for our Freedoms. The Memorial Day Choir, comprised of 200 voices from Arlington Heights church and school choirs, will sing The Navy Hymn, Mansions of the Lord, and Amazing Grace as we remember Arlington’s 58 Fallen Heroes. In addition, the names of area veterans who have passed away in the previous 12 month will be honored in a reading.

Fallen Hero Wreaths will be placed around Memorial Park. Each wreath commemorates one of the 58 Fallen Heroes form our town. To sponsor a Fallen Hero Wreath, log onto: www.ahpd.org/ and click on “Memorial Park” button.
Remembering Our Veterans Photo
Monday, May 27; immediately after the Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park;

After our Memorial Day Ceremony, any and all veterans present will be invited to gather around the Eternal Flame for the annual “Remembering Our Veterans” photo. This important photo provides an historic record of all those present who served and sacrificed for our Freedoms. Past years’ photos can be viewed by visiting www.ahpd.org and click on “Memorial Park” button.
