MAINE TOWNSHIP, IL – A 22-year-old Maine Township woman is facing felony charges for assaulting Cook County Sheriff’s Police officers Sunday morning, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said today.

Around 5:45 a.m. Sunday, Cook County Sheriff’s Police responded with North Maine Fire Department after a resident in the 8800 block of Robin Drive in Maine Township called 9-1-1 to a report a stranger had entered her home.

When officers arrived, they found the reported offender inside the home. They detained Jenelle Barton, 22, and escorted her outside. She appeared to be highly intoxicated.
She kicked a Cook County Sheriff’s Police sergeant in the chest and bit a patrol officer’s right hand. The patrol officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The police sergeant did not require medical attention.

Barton was taken to a local hospital due to her level of intoxication and was later released into Sheriff’s Police custody.

Barton has been charged with felony criminal trespass to residence and two felony counts of aggravated battery to a police officer. She appeared at the Skokie Courthouse this morning where her bond was set at $5,000.

Her next scheduled court appearance is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on May 16th at the Skokie Courthouse.
