Guns, Revoked FOID Cards Recovered During Sweep in South Suburbs

COOK COUNTY, IL – During a community safety initiative in the south suburbs, Cook County Sheriff’s police recovered a 38-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver from an individual whose FOID card was revoked for mental health reasons, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.

During the Wednesday sweep that included Calumet City, Lansing, Burnham and surrounding areas, Sheriff’s police also recovered a .357 Magnum, a .45 caliber Glock 21, a .30 caliber long rifle, and 550 rounds of ammunition in Dolton from an individual whose FOID card was revoked after being charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

In addition, 22 people were arrested on warrants. Officers issued 49 traffic citations and made two traffic arrests. The Sheriff’s Graffiti Unit cleaned 11 locations in Burnham, 23 in Lansing, and 48 in Calumet City. Also, 31 court-ordered evictions were completed.

The Sheriff’s Gang Unit and Illinois Department of Corrections teams recovered a .22-caliber Luger pistol and approximately 170 grams of marijuana.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department worked with Burnham, Lansing and Calumet City police departments and IDOC in this sweep.

The community safety initiatives are part of an ongoing effort to help suburban communities address and combat crime in their areas.
