Three Injured in Explosions Aboard Two Fuel Barges on Mobile River, East of Downtown Mobile, Alabama

A series of huge explosions on board two natural gas barges shook Mobile, Alabama Wednesday night. Some of the blasts were caught on camera. At least three people were hospitalized in critical condition.

Mobile, Alabama police and firefighters responded about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after two explosions on barges on the Mobile River east of downtown Mobile, Alabama, near the George C. Wallace Tunnel.

Three employees of the Oil Recovery Co. were transported with burn injuries to University of South Alabama Medical Center.

Carnival Triumph, docked nearby was immediately evacuated. Last February, the cruise ship became disabled, and was towed to Mobile’s port.
