CHICAGO, IL – Cook County Sheriff’s Officers located an 8-month-old boy whose mother fled with him from a Chicago treatment center on April 9th, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today. Officers located the infant with his 41-year-old mother, who is on parole for retail theft, Monday afternoon in west suburban Oak Park.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services had issued a child protection warrant for the infant on April 18 after his mother failed to show up to an appointment. The child, who was located the same day Sheriff’s officers received the warrant, was returned to IDCFS custody.

In October of 2012 Sheriff Dart convened a child protection unit whose mission is to locate missing and abducted children in Cook County. To date the unit has recovered 133 children.
