Buffalo Grove Firefighters Extinguish Bedroom Fire on Checker Drive

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Buffalo Grove responded about 8:27 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2022 to a report of a fire in a son’s bedroom in the block of 600 Checker Drive in Buffalo Grove. A second caller reported fire showing on the roof. Battalion 4 on arrival report heavy fire showing from the side of the house on the second floor.

The fire was upgraded to a Code 4 “Working Fire” response by 8:31 p.m. Firefighters fought the fire from the outside and from the interior immediately upon arrival. Interior firefighters confirmed a fire in a second-floor bedroom of the 2-story single family home.




Five residents successfully evacuated the house fire before firefighters arrived. Buffalo Grove police discovered a victim with possible smoke inhalation by 8:40 p.m. Two residents were assessed and treated by paramedics at the scene, but both refused transportation by paramedic rescue ambulance to a hospital.

Interior attack firefighters had water on the fire by about 8:42 p.m.

Fire command reported loss stopped by 8:48 p.m. with searches completed by firefighters reporting all clear on the first and second floor. Fire command also reported firefighters were beginning the overhaul phase at 8:48 p.m.

Fire, smoke and water damage was estimated to be at least $100,000, and the house was boarded up and deemed temporarily uninhabitable. The cause of the fire was not initially released by officials. Fire investigators were assigned to the scene.

Firefighters, paramedics, and/or command officers from Arlington Heights, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Long Grove, and Prospect Heights were assigned to the scene for mutual aid assistance.

Firefighters, paramedics, and/or command officers from Barrington Countryside, Glenview, Park Ridge and Wauconda were assigned to stand by in Buffalo Grove fire stations to respond to any other possible calls in the Village of Buffalo Grove.

ComEd and Nicor were assigned to the scene to secure utilities at the home.
